Window Treatments— Afterthought or Game-changer?

Window treatments sometimes get a bad rap. Fussy, staid, darkening, heavy, unnecessary. I used to think all of these things until I became an interior designer. Throughout my 14 years in the business, I’ve seen my fair share of seemingly finished rooms completely transformed by window coverings. But there is some truth to the stereotypes, so let’s break down how and why the right treatments are worth investing in.

The Finishing Touch

Think about it this way: You wouldn’t carefully choose an outfit for an important meeting and then forget about the belt and shoes. Naked windows could always benefit from those finishing touches. Draperies and blinds serve an important function and complete the room in an astounding way. Many clients have told me how much they hated draperies and resisted putting them up, only to truly love the outcome!

Modern Solutions

Swags and Jabots- do people even know what those are? If not, it’s because they are a relic of another era. Today, there are many contemporary and stylish options for privacy, as well as light and heat control. From roller shades to panel tracks to modern drapery panels, we have a solution for you that will definitely not remind you of Grandma’s house.

Optimizing Natural Light

Do you crave sunlight as much as I do? It lifts my mood more than coffee! Whether it’s functioning drapes, motorized shades, or blinds that selectively open, the right choice can ensure your privacy and let in as much sunshine as possible. We all need that Vitamin D!

Light Control

Too much light can be a problem, too. A glare on the TV, sun-faded fabrics, exposed windows at night- window coverings will mitigate those challenges. And of course we should make sure we are getting enough sleep. That Saturday morning sun just a little too early can be—quite literally—a rude awakening. Shades and linings that block unwanted light can help you get the restorative rest you need to handle your daily responsibilities.

If you are a window treatment skeptic, as I once was, give me a chance to change your mind. Finding the right dressing for your windows will complete your space with beauty and function. Trust me, they’re a game-changer!
