Schooling at Home- What You Need to Set Your Kids Up for Success

By now, kids are back to school—either in person, virtually, or some combination of the two. If you have school age children, they definitely need a dedicated space to work, just like the grown ups. Maybe you’ve already set something up and it could use a little tweaking, or maybe you’ve got a kid or two at the dining room table. We’ve come up with a few tips to help your littles succeed!

Create a dedicated area for your child’s learning in a spot with some natural light.

Nothing puts us to sleep faster than a dark space. Here, sitting in front of a bright window, her mood will stay positive and vitamin D will keep her alert! Add a small whiteboard or magnetic board for reminders and words of encouragement.

You don’t need a ton of space!

Note that this table and chair set is fairly small. It can easily fit in your child’s bedroom or another area of the home, like a playroom. Ensure that all school supplies are readily accessible and organized. Plants elevate mood and give a feeling of vibrancy and life.

Create a schedule that can be reprinted every week as assignments or classes change.

Even though this can be digital, a physical reminder that is visible throughout the day can be more effective, and ensure important tasks and dates are not minimized or lost. A noise-cancelling headset is crucial to keep out distractions and maintain focus, especially with siblings nearby.

Set up two desks in a single room for children similar in age.

Grouping elementary age kids or high schoolers makes it easier for them to stay engaged and productive. A child who is too much younger may have very different needs for remote learning and potentially become a distraction.
